Carey’s Oil, Carey’s Discount Oil has been servicing the residents of Abington for over 80 years.  Abington is a suburb of Boston, settle in 1668 and then incorporated in 1712, and over 300 plus years later, it is a bustling bedroom community with a long history. In late 1700’s an iron foundry was built within the town. Inventor and businessman Jesse Reed invented a machine that made tacks, which in turn led to the anchoring of the shoe industry in the town. During the nineteenth and early twentieth century, the manufacture of boots and shoes was its primary industry, with nearly half of the footwear provided for the Union Army during the Civil War being provided by Abington factories. Also, Abington was a center of the abolitionist movement. In the mid 1870’s, the towns of Rockland and Whitman, were carved out and separated and incorporated as their own towns.
